Workplace Mentorship For Newcomers Program

Who is this program for?

The Workplace Mentorship for Newcomers program aims to provide sector specific workplace experience for newcomers in Southern New Brunswick.  The program encourages community engagement and relationship building, which will assist newcomers in making informed decisions regarding their long-term career goals within the Canadian workplace setting.

Most importantly, this program aims to help newcomers build their self-confidence regarding entering the Canadian workforce in a comfortable, safe and practical learning environment.

The desired outcome of this mentorship is to provide newcomers of diverse age and workplace experience with opportunities to:

  • learn about the job application and hiring process

  • improve their communication abilities and make relationships

  • practice their chosen official Canadian language

  • learn about essential Canadian workplace skills

  • develop career goals and receive advice on how to achieve those goals

  • build their self-confidence and level of comfort in the Canadian workplace

  • understand the skills, training and experience required within their sector of interest

  • determine available resources in the workplace

  • learn about workplace laws, rights and responsibilities

Commitment:

  • Eight hours, yet frequency and extent of participation is voluntary and flexible

  • A short mentorship orientation where program goals and cultural competency will be discussed
